MARIGOLD Singapore Squash Open 2022: Preview & How To Watch Live

14 November 2022

The MARIGOLD Singapore Squash Open 2022 gets underway tomorrow with glass court action coming from the OCBC Arena and side court play taking place at Kallang ActiveSG Squash Centre. The event will run from November 15 – 20 with a top-quality field of players in attendance.

World No.2 Paul Coll is the No.1 seed for the event and will be looking to capture his first title of the 2022/23 season after failing to do so in two finals that he’s reached in the Egyptian Open and last week’s New Zealand Open. Coll will face the winner of Malaysia’s Eain Yow Ng or India’s Saurav Ghosal in his opening match after receiving a bye in round one.

He is due to face No.2 seed Mostafa Asal in the final who currently sits at No.4 in the current PSA rankings. Asal impressively captured the Grasshopper Cup last month but has not been shy in expressing his desire to reach World No.1 and a win in this Gold event will certainly help his cause. He will play either England’s Patrick Rooney or India’s late inclusion, Ramit Tandon, in round two.

No.3 seed Mohamed ElShorbagy has been in incredible form of late and comes into the MARIGOLD Singapore Squash Open full of confidence after securing the Robertson Lodges New Zealand Open in great style. ElShorbagy is another player who has spoken of his desire to return to World No.1 and in the form he’s showing currently, you wouldn’t back against him collecting a fourth title this week.

USA No.1 Amanda Sobhy tops the women’s draw as she looks to claim her second title of the season, after winning the Oracle NetSuite Open earlier in the year. Sobhy will play either Scotland’s Lisa Aitken or Egypt’s Nadine Shahin after receiving a round one bye.

Barfoot & Thompson New Zealand Open winner Joelle King is the No.2 seed for the event and will be determined to maintain the top form that saw her claim the title on home soil last week without dropping a game. King will be up against Canada’s Hollie Naughton or wildcard Au Yeong Wai Yhann in her opening match.

Egyptian duo Nour El Tayeb and Rowan Elaraby are the No.3 and 5 seeds in the draw and both will pose direct threats to the top two seeds. The pair are due to meet in the quarter finals, just as they did in the Grasshopper Cup last month. Elaraby won on that occasion but El Tayeb will be determined to seek revenge if the pair meet again.

All of the action from the MARIGOLD Singapore Squash Open will be streamed live on SQUASHTV. Stay up to date with anything related to the event by following the PSA on TwitterFacebook, Instagram, YouTube and TikTok. The live scores will also be available here.
