X5 Squash Open: Gobbi Takes First PSA Title

Brazil’s Diego Gobbi secured his first PSA title, doing so on home soil at the X5 Squash Open in Sao Paulo, defeating Argentina’s Miguel Pujol in a five-game battle in the final.

Gobbi came into the tournament, which was regionally restricted due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, as the top seed, and the Brazilian got his campaign underway with a 72-minute victory over wildcard Murilo Fernandes on the opening day.

The World No.204 then got the better of Rhuan Sousa, another Brazilian wildcard, in the quarter finals, to make his way through to the last four. There, he downed No.5 seed Yuri Pollan in a half an hour contest.

The final saw him take on No.7 seed Miguel Pujol, with the Argentinian fresh off his maiden title at the Head Open last month. It was Pujol who held a 2-1 advantage, but Gobbi fought back to win the last two games, securing his maiden title on Tour.
