World Champs Spot Up For Grabs in Creteil

28 November 2018

A place in February’s PSA World Championships will be up for grabs in this week’s Val de Marne, PSA Challenger Tour event, which will be the sixth World Championship qualifying event of the season.

Egypt’s Menna Hamed tops the draw at the Centre Marie Thérèse Eyquem in Creteil less than two weeks after winning the PWC Open in Switzerland to book her World Championship spot.

A win for the World No.72 in Creteil would mean that the available spot at the World Championships will be taken up by the runner-up from this tournament,

As such, players such as English duo Rachael Chadwick and Kace Bartley, and Czech Republic’s Anna Serme will be aiming to ensure that they will compete amongst the world’s elite in Chicago next February.

Chadwick made it to the semi-finals of the PWC Open but lost out to compatriot Lily Taylor in straight games.

The World No.75 from Chester is aiming to win her first ever PSA Tour title and is seeded to come up against Hamed in the title decider.

World No.88 Kace Bartley will also be looking to get her hands on the trophy as she looks to back up her run to the semi-finals of the Rhode Island Open two weeks ago.

The Englishwoman is seeded third for the tournament and is predicted to play Chadwick in the last four.

Serne, the sister in law of World No.4 Camille, made it to the quarter-finals of the Memorial Open on her last outing and is bidding to reach her first final of 2018. She is drawn on the same side of the draw as top seed Hamed.

Dutchwoman Tessa Ter Sluis, England’s Jasmine Hutton, Spain’s Cristina Gomez and World No.108 Grace Gear are the other seeded players in the top eight and they all receive a bye into round two.

The Val De Marne takes place between November 28 – December 1. Follow @PSAChallenger on Twitter to stay up to date with the event.
