WindyCity Update: Laura Massaro Marches Past Hansen

26 February 2016

World No.1 Laura Massaro marched into the second round of the 2016 Windy City Open presented by Guggenheim Partners and Equitrust Life Insurance Company at the University Club of Chicago today courtesy of a dominant straight-games victory over Denmark’s Line Hansen.

Massaro ended 2015 by making consecutive PSA World Series finals at the U.S. Open, Qatar Classic and Hong Kong Open, winning two from three titles, but suffered a disappointing quarter-finals exit in January’s Tournament of Champions.

Fresh from winning her third British National Championships earlier this month the 32-year-old from Preston feels like her form has returned at the right time as she bids to re-assert her credentials as the sport’s top player with an emphatic 30-minute win over the World No.25 providing a suitable start.

“Coming into a World Series tournament as the top seed is a very nice feeling and this is the first time that I’ve ever experienced that so I’m excited to hopefully do well here,” said Massaro.

“I won this event two years ago so I’ll be doing everything I can this week to try and replicas that.

“I feel like my form is pretty good coming into this evert. I won the British Nationals a few weeks ago and I’m happy with how I played today but I need to make sure I keep on improving and pushing my level up if I want to go all the way and win the title.”

Result:
[1] Laura Massaro (ENG) bt Line Hansen (DEN) 3-0: 11-2, 11-7, 11-5 (30m)
