WEEKEND ROUND-UP: Victories for Bernabeu, Haycocks and Balazs

10 December 2018

Spain’s Iker Bernabeu had the perfect finish to 2018 when he lifted the Life Time Betty Griffin Florida Open title, beating top seed Ritchie Fallows in the final.

England’s Fallows was not quite at his best but World No 65 Bernabeu capitalised to win 3-1.

Final: [2] Iker Pajares Bernabeu (ESP) bt [1] Richie Fallows (ENG) v 11-9, 11-6, 5-11, 11-6 (60m)

Top seed Jaymie Haycocks proved too strong for teenage surprise package Nick Wall to win the Ocean Blue Logistics Grimsby and Cleethorpes Open.

Veteran Haycocks used all his experience to beat the 18-year-old 3-1.

The well-attended final saw Haycocks take the first 11-6 before a fightback from Wall saw him level in the second.

The third was a much closer affair with the teenager taking the lead 3-0 but from 3-3 it was nip and tuck until the youngster hit the tin twice in succession to give the game to his more-experienced opponent.

From that point Haycocks eased away to claim his first PSA title on home soil.

Final: [1] Jaymie Haycocks (ENG) bt Nick Wall (ENG) 11-6, 7-11, 11-9, 11-4 (54m)

Hungary’s Farkas Balazs caused an upset in the final of the IMET PSA Open, defeating second seed Reiko Peter in the final.

The 21-year-old number six seed proved too strong for his Sqiss opponent, running out 3-0 winner after 45 minutes in Bratislava, Slovakia.

Final: [6] Farkas Balazs (HUN) v [2] Reiko Peter (SUI)11-5, 11-6, 12-10 (45m)
