Wakefield PSA: Top Seed Lake Secures Title

England’s Nathan Lake claimed the title at the Wakefield PSA in Virginia, USA, with the top seed coming through the event dropping just a single game en route to his second crown of 2021.

The Englishman came into the event, which was regionally restricted due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, as the top seed, and he started on fire in the opening round, downing Asyraf Azan in straight games, not allowing the Malaysian to notch a single point in the contest.

He then got the better of Nigerian No.1 Babatunde Ajagbe in straight games in the last eight to make it through to the semis, where he came up against the tournament’s surprise package, wildcard Lewis Anderson.

Anderson, another Englishman, and downed two of the top eight seeds to make the last four, but Lake was able to dispatch his fellow countryman, once again in straight games, to reach the final.

In the final on Sunday, Lake came up against US No.1 Shahjahan Khan for the title, and after dropping the first game 11-7, he came back to win the next three games in convincing fashion, to claim his second title of the year.
