Torneo Mexicano de Squash QF: Top Four Seeds Into Semi-Finals

20 August 2022

After a pair of surprises came on the opening day of the Torneo Profesional Mexicano de Squash in Ciudad de Mexico, the top four seeds showed their quality on the second day, with all four safely making it through to the semi-finals of the competition.

The only contest to go into a fourth game came between No.3 seed Guilherme Melo and Argentina’s Jeremias Azana, one of two unseeded players who had reached the quarter finals. Melo took a tow-game lead, and although Azana fought back to win the third, the Brazilian regrouped to take it in four, to advance to the semis where he will now face the tournament’s top seed, Mexico’s Arturo Salazar.

The other semi-final will see No.2 seed Alfredo Avila and Guatemala’s Alejandro Enriquez do battle for a place in the final, after the pair came through their respective last eight clashes against Alejandro Reyes and Edgar Zayas.

The semis of the Torneo Profesional Mexicano de Squash will take place on Saturday, August 20, with the possibility of an all-Mexican final on home soil.
