Squash Colombia Challenger: Top Seed Vargas Takes Crown

1 March 2021

World No.76 Juan Camilo Vargas claimed victory on home soil at the weekend, winning the Squash Colombia Challenger in convincing fashion.

Like all events on the Challenger Tour right now, the tournament was limited to domestic-only entries, meaning only Colombian players entered into the 16-man draw.

Vargas received a bye for the first round, and in the following three matches, he did not drop a game, and spent just 85 minutes on court to take the fifth title of his professional career.

He got the better of Juan Jose Torres in the quarter-finals, dispatching his compatriot in just 21 minutes, before overcoming No.4 seed Andres Herrera in the last four of the tournament.

Vargas then came up against No.2 seed Edgar Ramirez Bautista in the final, but following a five-game clash with Ronald Palomino the day before, Ramirez Bautista never looked comfortable on court. It took the World No.76 under half an hour to secure the victory, his fifth on Tour.
