Santiago Open: Tournament Preview

7 February 2022

The first of two events on the Challenger Tour this week will be the Santiago Open, which will take place from Tuesday, February 8 to Thursday, February 10 at the Gimnasio Squash Santiago.

The Challenger 5 level tournament will be restricted to domestic entrants only, allowing just those currently residing in Spain to participate. Due to this, the entirety of the 16-man draw hails from the host nation.

World No.84 Ivan Perez will be the top seed for the tournament, with World No.91 Hugo Varela as his nearest challenger for the title, with both men aiming for their second victory of the season.

Former World No.48 Edmon Lopez will be among the top four seeds for the event, as he features in a Challenger Tour tournament for the first time since 2019, and what will also be his first appearance on Tour since last May.

Sergio Garcia Pollan, Augusto Ortigosa, Marc Lopez, Nilo Vidal and Javier Martin, all members of the world’s top 200, will be in action, with Alvaro Martin as the lone junior in action in the event.

The event takes place from Tuesday, February 8 to Thursday, February 10 at the Gimnasio Squash Santiago in Spain, and you can follow the PSA Challenger Tour on *Twitter* and *Facebook* for daily updates from the event.
