Sam Aguiar Louisville Open: Tournament Preview

The first tournament of the week on the Challenger Tour will be the Challenger 10 level Sam Aguiar Louisville Open, which will take place across two venues in Louisville, Kentucky, the Louisville Boatclub and the Pendennis Club.

The five-day event, which will run from Tuesday, September 6 to Saturday, September 10, will see a 24-strong men’s draw take part, with two Americans among the top three seeds for the competition.

Timothy Brownell and Andrew Douglas will be aiming to win on home soil this week. Meanwhile, both Mexico’s Alfredo Avila and Pakistan’s Nasir Iqbal, will be aiming to become the first male two-time winners on Tour in the 2022-2023 season, to join Hong Kong’s Chan Sin Yuk in doing so after she won twice in the space of five weeks in Australia.

Avila will be the No.2 seed for the competition, and will be joined by the Czech Republic’s Daniel Mekbib, Egypts Seif Shenawy, Guatemala’s Josue Enriquez, Pakistani Noor Zaman and Brazilian No.1 Guilherme Melo in the top eight seeds for the competition.

The top two Americans will be joined by a further three home hopes for the tournament in Louisville. Jamie Ruggiero and Faisal Riaz are in the draw, alongside wildcard Zephan Huang, who will be featuring in his debut Tour event. England’s Mark Broekman, who has lived in the States for several years, will be an adopted favourite this week.
