Rochester ProAm RD2: Wildcards Yanez and Chotrani To Meet In Last Eight

For the second day in succession, the wildcard duo of Mexico’s Mario Yanez and India’s Veer Chotrani secured surprise wins, with the pair now advancing to the quarter finals of the Challenger 10 level Rochester ProAm.

Chotrani came up against the No.4 seed, Mexico’s Miled Zarazua, and came through his second round contest with minimal fuss, despite the Mexican ranking exactly 300 places higher. The Indian took the win 11-9, 11-7, 11-8 to make his move into the quarter finals, where another wildcard awaits.

The second wildcard to make it through to the last eight of the Challenger 10 level competition was another Mexican, in Mario Yanez. The former top 100 ranked player overcame Germany’s No.8 seed Tobias Weggen, also in straight games, with Yanez needing just 24 minutes to get the better of his opponent.

There was one more surprise result on the second day of action at the Genesee Valley Club in Rochester, as Malaysia’s Sanjay Jeeva overcame the challenger of Mexico’s No.7 seed Allan Nunez. The Malaysian, who is currently the World No.309, won in three to book his place in the last eight of the competition, where he will now face the tournament’s top seed, Czech Republic’s Daniel Mekbib.

The action moves to the University of Rochester for the quarter finals and onwards, with matches from the last eight taking place on Friday, April 8.
