Rochester ProAm: Hussein Downs Mekbib To Take Victory

Egypt’s Aly Hussein overcame the challenge of the tournament’s top seed, Daniel Mekbib, to win the final of the Rochester ProAm on Sunday afternoon, claiming his first Tour title of the season.

It was the Egyptian’s first appearance of 2022, and he came into the Challenger 5 level competition as the No.2 seed, receiving a bye through the opening day’s play thanks to his ranking and seeding.

The World No.114 then started his campaign in Rochester with a win against Indian wildcard Yash Fadte, closing out the win in straight games, before then defeated No.5 seed Nicholas Calvert, also in three.

Hussein then came up against another wildcard, in India’s Veer Chotrani, in the last four, and after just over an hour’s play, he took the win in four games to advance to the final of the competition at the University of Rochester.

The Egyptian came up against the tournament’s top seed, Czech Republic’s Daniel Mekbib, in the final on Sunday afternoon, and after the pair were level through two games, it was Hussein that was able to find an extra gear to push on, and after 68 minutes and four games, he took the title. It’s his second victory on Tour, following his win in Odense in 2021.
