Qualifying Begins at Charing Cross Classic

The first qualifying round of the LOC Charing Cross Classic, PSA M5 event saw top seed Ismail Rauf drop out at the first hurdle after being defeated 3-2 by Jamie Henderson.

Scotsman Henderson claimed the first game but was pegged back in the second after the crowd at the Charing Cross Sports Club were treated to a number of fine rallies. The rest of the match followed along a similar vein with Henderson eventually prevailing courtesy of a 11-6, 6-11, 11-8, 8-11, 11-8 triumph.

Henderson will go up against Miroslav Celler in the final round of qualifying after the Slovakian number seven seed saw off Julian Tomlinson in straight games.

Bermuda’s Micah Franklin is also through to the next stage thanks to a 3-0 victory against David Haley in their first round fixture. Steven London awaits Franklin in the next round after he beat Ondrej Uherka.

Tristan Eysele overcame Bradley Masters in a nail-biting five-game affair to reach the final qualifying round where he will line up against the promising 18-year-old Patrick Rooney who saw off Abid Khan.

Meanwhile, Nick Mulvey and Chris Hall will go head-to-head after respective wins against Claudio Pinto and Charlie Lee.
