PSA Challenger Le Reve: Wilhelmi Secures Second Tour Title

30 January 2022

Switzerland’s Yannick Wilhelmi claimed the first men’s Challenger Tour title of the year with a straight games victory over Welshman Emyr Evans in the final at Squash Du Reve on Sunday afternoon.

The World No.101 came into the tournament as the No.2 seed, and he came through the entire event without dropping a game, showing his class above the field, all the way through the three days of action in France.

The final saw him take on top seed Emyr Evans, with the Welshman having come through two five-game tussles on the second day of action, beating Your Furneti and Edwin Clain in deciding games to reach the final.

Wilhelmi, on the other hand, came into the final fresh, having beaten three Frenchman, in Brice Nicolas, Joshua Phinera and Toufik Mekhalfi, all in straight game wins.

The final was another straightforward victory for the Swiss player, who took his first title on Tour last year at the Archi Factory Open Lorient. After taking the first game, Wilhelmi then had to fight to win the second 11-9, but that helped him keep the momentum, and he wrapped up the victory in straight games to secure his second Tour title.
