Pakistan International Squash Tournament Preview

For the second time in three weeks, the PSA Challenger Tour features an event in Pakistan, as the Pakistan International Squash Tournament takes place from December 7-11 in Islamabad.

Like all of the events on the Challenger Tour at the moment, this tournament is domestic-entry only, meaning that all but one of the participants across both the men’s and women’s draws are from Pakistan, with Italian Muhammad Bilal the only non-Pakistani national in action.

The men’s draw is headed up by World No.44 Tayyab Aslam, who has reached the final in his last four tournaments on home soil, winning two of those. He lifted the title at last month’s BISL International Squash Championship, having also done so at the Serena Huawei Pakistan International Squash Tournament and the 13th DG Rangers Sindh Squash Championship, winning in back-to-back weeks in December 2019.

Asim Khan, Amaad Fareed and Farhan Mehboob are the other men seeded in the top four in the men’s draw, with Danish Atlas Khan, the player Aslam defeated in the DG Rangers final, the No.6 seed for the event.

Amna Fayyaz, the World No.88, is the top seed in the women’s draw for the Pakistan International Squash Tournament, and she will face competition from Faiza Zafar, Madina Zafar and Moqaddas Ashraf. The 18-year-old has a win on home soil already in her career, where she defeated Ashraf in the final.
