Open des Bretzels: Villard Downs Chukwu To Win Title

28 March 2021

France’s Enora Villard has secured the third title of her professional career after defeating the unseeded Hungarian Hannah Chukwu in the final of the Open des Bretzels.

The event had entry restrictions, with the Open des Bretzels allowing only cross-border participation, with players from the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Latvia, Spain and Switzerland in the draw.

Villard was the top seed for the tournament, and dropped just a single game throughout her four matches, and that came in a lengthy tie-break during her semi-final with compatriot Marie Stephan.

The World No.48 had gotten the better of another Frenchwoman in Ninon Lemarchand and Spain’s Sofia Mateos, along with her win over Stephan to reach the final.

She then overcame the unseeded Hannah Chukwu in the final, after the Hungarian had already taken out three seeded players. However, it would be Villard that took the win, closing out her week with a dominant 22-minute victory over Chukwu to claim the crown.
