Northland Open: Lwamba Wins Chileshe Brothers Battle

In an all-sibling battle, Lwamba Chileshe took the spoils in the final of the Northland Open, defeating younger brother Temwa in four games to win the title.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, only those currently residing in New Zealand were allowed to enter the Challenger 5 level tournament, which was held at the Whangarei Squash Club.

The Chileshes were the top two seeds for the event, and were seeded to meet in the final, and they did not disappoint. It was Lwamba who took the victory in the end, thanks to a 11-7, 12-14, 11-7, 11-7 success in the final.

The elder of the Chileshe brothers had dropped just a single game coming into the final, after getting the better of wildcard Sam Gearing, Australia’s Damon Macmillan and No.5 seed William Donnelly.

He then came through against his brother in a final for the second time in 2021, having also beaten his younger sibling in the final of the Morrinsville Open.
