Malaysian Tour Qualifying Begins

The first qualifying round of the Malaysian Tour Squash V, PSA M5 event saw the majority of the seeded players advance through to the next round with Henry Leung’s victory over Syed Ali Mujtaba Shah Bokhari proving to be the only upset of the day.

Leung, who was one of the surprise packages of the Contrex Challenge Cup last month, dropped the opening game to his higher-ranked opponent but stormed back to record an 8-11, 11-8, 11-4, 11-6 victory and propel himself through to the final round of qualifying.

He will meet Umar Balaj Malik there after the Pakistani number seven seed saw off Timothy Ling in four games.

Local player Ampandi Muhammad Aqif is also through to the next round after receiving a walkover against Sheraz Saleem. Boston-born Sam Gould will face Aqif after slaloming past Mir Hamza Gul.

Tsun Hei Yuen and Ong Sai Hung are set to play each other after they defeated Cliford Tay and Jess Tay, respectively while Ranvijay Singh’s bye sees him through to face Marcus Wei Jie Sim after the Malaysian bested Abdul Basit Samad.
