Guatemala Open Tournament SF: Avila and Enriquez To Meet in Final

26 February 2022

Top seed Alfredo Avila and home hope Alejandro Enriquez will meet in the final of the 1st Guatemala Open Squash PSA Tournament on Saturday, after coming through their respective last four clashes.

Enriquez, who had already defeated the higher-ranked Mexican Allan Nunez, and No.7 seed Edgar Ramirez Bautista, took on Colombia’s No.2 seed Ronald Palomino in the semi-finals, and came through it with flying colours.

The Guatemalan, who had also taken out compatriot Ricardo Toscano in the quarter finals, needed just 38 minutes to get the better of Palomino, to make it through to his first final on Tour, at the age of 22.

He will face the tournament’s top seed, Mexico’s Alfredo Avila, in the final on Saturday, after the World No.87 came through a four-game battle with England’s Tom Walsh, the No.4 seed. He dropped the first game 11-5, but then won the next three comfortably, allowing the Englishman to score just 12 points across them, as he moved through to the final.

Avila and Enriquez will meet in the final on Saturday afternoon in Guatemala, with the winner claiming the crown at the 1st Guatemala Open Squash PSA Tournament.
