Fuller sees off Harris to make Sutton Coldfield semis

20 November 2015

The quarter-finals of the Sutton Coldfield International 2015 were keenly contested with Chris Fuller edging out Michael Harris 3-2 in the pick of the ties.

Fuller raced into a two-game lead before Harris fought back to take the match into a deciding fifth.

Eventually the craft and guile of Fuller prevailed as he clinched his place in the semi-finals.

Josh Masters also booked his last-four berth by comfortably defeating Ben Ford in just under half an hour.

Ford was struggling with fatigue after an epic five setter the previous day. Masters capitalised on his opponent’s tiredness, and was ruthless in his play, hitting a number of impressive winners.

Patrick Rooney returned from a disappointing opening set to see off the challenge of Mark Fuller.

Rooney started slowly, and looked to be struggling, but managed to gather his composure in the second set and take his momentum into the third.

Yet another momentum twist saw Fuller take the fourth, but appeared to run out of steam in the fifth, with Rooney finishing the job just past the hour mark.

Jan Van Den Herrewegen was in a bullish mood as he swept aside Tristan Eysele in straight sets.

As seen in the previous matches, tiredness was becoming a crucial factor in the outcome of the results.

Eysele looked physically drained, which showed in the second set as Herrewegen raced to a 6-0 lead, and never really looked back.

After a series of long rallies in the third, it was Herrewegen who found that extra gear, and relatively cruising into the semi-final.
