Equinox Women’s Open: Turmel Takes First Win Since 2019

31 January 2022

England’s Lucy Turmel has ended her two year stint without a title on the PSA World Tour, thanks to a straight games victory over thong Kong’s Tze Lok Ho in the final of the Equinox Women’s Boston Open.

The World No.25 was the top seed for the tournament, and came into the event looking for her first victory since winning the Springfield Scottish Squash Open two years previously.

After receiving a bye through the opening round of action, the Englishwoman got the better of compatriot Anna Kimberley in straight game, but then had to fight through two five-gamers to make the final.

Firstly, she had to come from behind to beat another Englishwoman, Julianne Courtice, after losing the second and this games on tiebreaks, before then beating rising star Fayrouz Aboelkheir in the semi-finals, holding off a fightback from the young Egyptian to win in five.

In the final, she was in complete control against Tze Lok Ho, beating the World No.41 in straight games. Turmel claimed the win in less than half an hour, her fourth on Tour, and first since 2019.
