Edmonton Squash Club Open: Hong Wins All-Hong Kong Final

Top seed Tang Ming Hong took hoe the title at the Setanta Edmonton Squash Club Open in Canada this weekend, after he defeated compatriot Chung Yat Long in an all-Hong Kong final at the Challenger 3 level event.

It was a tournament dominated by the Asian nation, with the top five seeds for the tournament all hailing from Hong Kong, and four of those making it into the semi-finals to guarantee a winner from the country.

Hong made it that far thanks to victories Canada’s Momo El Serafy and England’s Aaron Allpress in the early rounds of the competition, before then overcoming the challenge of fellow countryman Matthew Lai, the No.3 seed, in a tight four-game battle in the semi-finals.

The final saw Hong take on compatriot Chung Yat Long, and he needed just 27 minutes and three games to get the job done. He won 11-6, 11-8, 11-7 to claim his first title of the season, and his first since the Coverstaff Recruitment Squash XL Open in 2019.
