Dynam Cup SQ-Cube Open: Tournament Preview

The Dynam Cup PSA SQ-Cube Open is one of two tournaments on the Challenger Tour this week, and the action gets underway at the Yokohama Squash Stadium SQ-Cube on Friday, May 27.

The tournament, which features a Challenger 5 level men’s event and a Challenger 3 level women’s draw, will run for three days across the weekend, and will see players from seven nations participate to take home the titles on Sunday afternoon in Yokohama.

World No.99 Yassin Elshafei will be the top seed for the men’s tournament, as he aims to add to the two titles he already has under his belt in the 2021-2022 campaign. His nearest challenger for the crown this week will be Hong Kong’s Tang Ming Hong, and Indian Sandeep Ramachandran, with Ryunosuke Tsukue, the leading home favourite, rounding out the top four seeds.

The Filipino trio of Robert Andrew Garcia, Reymark Begornia and David Pelino, along with Ziad Ibrahim make up the rest of the seeded players for the competition, one that will also feature Singaporean Samuel Kang and Pakistan’s Muhammad Haris Iqbal.

Hong Kong’s Cheng Nga Ching and Ching Hei Fung will join the Japanese pair of Satomi Watanabe and Akari Midorikawa in the top four seeds for the women’s Challenger 3 level tournament. Fung will be looking to join the other three as winners on Tour this season.

Dynam Cup SQ-Cube Open: Tournament Preview

The last event of the week on the Challenger Tour is the Dynam Cup SQ-Cube Open, which takes place at Yokohama Squash Stadium from Sunday 19 to Monday 20 September.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Challenger 5 level tournament, which features both men’s and women’s draws, will be run with domestic entrants only.

Two non-Japanese players will feature in the tournament in Yokohama, with the Pakistani duo of Shahzad Ali and Muhammad Haris Iqbal both in action in the men’s event.

Tomotaka Endo will be the top seed in the men’s event, with Naoki Hayashi and Ryunosuke Tsukue his nearest challengers. The two Pakistanis also feature in the top five seeds.

Satomi Watanabe will lead the women’s draw, with compatriots Risa Sugimoto, Akari Midorikawa and Kumuri Takahashi as the nearest contenders for the prize come Monday evening.
