Doncaster Cup Day 2: Wall and Todd To Meet in Sunday’s Final

27 February 2022

After a lengthy second day of action at the Challenger 3 level Doncaster Cup, it will be the tournament’s top two seeds, in England’s Nick Wall and Sam Todd, who will do battle in the final on Sunday.

Both men had to come through tight five-game battles in the first round, but since then, Wall has looked in imperious form. The World No.71 got the better of No.8 seed Ben Smith in the quarters in just 20 minutes, before then beating No.4 seed Joe Lee in straight games in the last four.

In the bottom half of the draw, Yorkshireman Todd downed Welshman Emyr Evans in a four game battle to make it through his quarter final, before holding off a fight back from No.5 seed Curtis Malik, who had cause the event’s only upset by knocking out No.3 seed Lwamba Chileshe in the last eight, to book his place in the final.

The final of the Doncaster Cup will take place between Todd and Wall on Sunday, February 27 at the Doncaster Townfields Squash Club.
