Czech Pro Series V: Aubert Takes First Win In Two Years

Frenchman Benjamin Aubert ended a two year winless drought with a comprehensive performance at the Czech Pro Series V at Squash Club Strahov in Prague this week.

The World No.56 came into the tournament as the top seed, and received. Bye through to the second round, where he then overcame one of several home hopes in the field, Ondrej Vorlicek.

He then defeated another Czech player, in David Zeman in the quarter finals, once again securing the win in three, before taking on No.6 seed Jakub Solnicky in the last four in Prague.

Aubert downed a third Czech in succession to make it through to the final, with a 3-1 win over Solnicky, a match that included his only lost game of the tournament.

The Frenchman took on Colombian No.2 Juan Camilo Vargas in the final in Prague on Thursday evening, and it was his longest contest of the week, despite being only three games. The pair did battle for almost an hour, with Aubert securing the match in a third game tie-break, 14-12.

The World No.56, who has been inside the top 50 in previous months, secured his first victory since a win at the QSF 3 in 2019, and he will move on to Spain next for the RFES Spanish Open Ciudad de Palencia just prior to Christmas.
