City of Greater Bendigo International: Tournament Preview

The Challenger 3 level City of Greater Bendigo International takes place this week on the Challenger Tour, with the event being held at he Bendigo Squash Club in Victoria, Australia, from Thursday, June 30 to Sunday, June 3

World No.78 Sarah Cardwell will lead the women’s draw, and the Australian will be the highest-ranked player in the competition, one that features both a men’s and women’s event across four days of action in Bendigo.

The former World No.41 will be aiming to claim her fourth Tour title, but she will face competition from Japan’s Akari Midorikawa, with the 16-year-old being the No.2 seed for the tournament. Hong Kong’s Wai Sze Wing and Pakistan’s Aiman Shahbaz will make up the rest of a multinational top four seeds at the event.

The Australian duo of Joseph White and Rhys Dowling will be the top two seeds in the men’s competition, with the pair both looking at victory on home soil. They will be challenged by Malaysia’s Bryan Lim Tze King, who twice on Australian soil in 2021, and Egypt’s Shady El Sherbiny, who is yet to feature in a final on the Tour.

Frenchman Laouenan Loaec will be the sole European player in action in the men’s draw, with India’s Navaneeth Prabhu and Singapore’s Aaron Liang both being the only representatives from their nations in the men’s draw.
