Cheetham Hill Classic: Beecroft and Jenkins Take Maiden Titles

Miles Jenkins and Lucy Beecroft have both secured their first PSA Tour titles, with wins at the Arion Homes Cheetham Hill Classic in Manchester.

The Challenger 3 level tournament was restricted to only domestic entrants due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Only those currently based in the United Kingdom were allowed to play.

Jenkins was the No.2 seed for the tournament, and he started his campaign with wins over the Scottish pair of Alasdair Prott and Fergus Richards.

The Englishman then took out No.5 seed Ben Smith, before overcoming the challenge from No.4 seed James Peace in the final. With a 3-0 win in the final, Jenkins came through the entirety of the event without dropping a game.

In the women’s event, unseeded Lucy Beecroft secured her maiden PSA Tour title after getting the better of four seeds during the tournament.

Fresh off the back of her debut appearance at the PSA World Championships, the Englishwoman started with quick-fire wins over No.5 seed Jasmin Kalar and No.4 seed Kiera Marshall.

Beecroft then beat No.2 seed Katie Wells to make the final, where she came up against No.8 seed Saran Nghiem. She took victory in 31 minutes, coming through the entire tournament without dropping a game to claim her first title as a professional squash player.
