Chairman Cup 2: Yip and Yuk Secure Titles

At the Chairman Cup 2, the Challenger 10 level event held at the Hong Kong Squash Centre, there were wins for Tsz Fung Yip and Chan Sin Yuk, with the latter securing her first title as a professional.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the event was restricted to domestic-only entries, with only those currently residing in Hong Kong being allowed to participate.

Tsz Fung Yip, the World No.39, was the top seed in the men’s draw, and he came through his first three matches without dropping a game. He defeated Wailok To, Chi Him Wong and Henry Leung to secure his place in the final.

Yip then won the first game of the final, in which he came up against No.4 seed Tsz Kwan Lau. The World No.78 fought back to secure the second game, but the tournament’s top seed was able to win both the third and fourth games to take the sixth title of his career.

The women’s draw saw an array of shocks in the latter stages, with No.5 seed Vanessa Chu and No.6 seed Chan Sin Yuk taking out the big seeds. The pair made it through to the final having knocked out each of the top four seeds in the tournament between them.

Yuk downed Fung Ching Hei in the first round, before wins against No.2 seed Tze Lok Ho and No.4 seed Lee Ka Yi saw her make her first final on Tour.

She came up against Chu in the final on Saturday afternoon at the Hong Kong Squash Centre, and she got the better of her higher-seeded opponent in straight games to secure her first professional crown.
