CAS International Qualifying Kicks Off

The first qualifying round of the CAS International Squash Championship, PSA M25 tournament saw the majority of top seeded players ease through to the next round with the exception of a couple of upsets.

Kashif Asif’s victory over Zahir Shah was a shock result given that there is 214 places between the pair in the World Rankings but Asif thoroughly deserved his victory after dominating proceedings throughout with an 11-8, 11-6, 11-5 victory.

The Pakistani 15-year-old will face Ahsan Ayaz in the next round after he defeated Abbas Maniar in straight games.

Abbas Shoukat is also through to the final round of qualifying after a hard-fought 3-1 triumph against Basem Makram. Every single game was a close encounter but it was Shoukat who eventually prevailed to reach the next round. He will go up against top seed Farhan Mehboob for a place in the main draw after he dispatched Waqas Mehboob in straight games.

Elsewhere, Muhammad Saqib Yousaf earned his spot in the next round after storming to victory over Haseeb Gul while Muhammad Shoaib Hassan will be his opponent there thanks to his win against Muhammad Farhan.

Asim Khan and Waqar Mehboob will contest the other final qualifying round fixture after they defeated Raees Khan and Salman Zeb, respectively.
