Canary Wharf RD1: Mosaad Saves Match Balls To Advance

Egypt’s Omar Mosaad had to save two match balls in the second game of his clash with Malaysia’s Eain Yow Ng, as he eventually navigated his way through to the last 16 of the St. James’s Place Canary Wharf Classic.

It would not go entirely the Egyptian’s way though, as he fell behind to the young Malaysian after the first game. Yow won the final three points of the game to take it, before the ‘Hammer of Thor’ fought back.

Mosaad went 7-1 up in the second, before a short injury break as the Malaysian had to have a cut on his hand seen to. The break helped, as he came roaring back, forcing match ball. However, the big Egyptian saved both match balls, to take the game 14-12.

The third game was a scrappy, stop-start affair, but it was the World No.17 that took the victory, booking his place in the second round where he will face Marwan ElShorbagy.

“I was a little bit nervous, especially in the first game. He is a young player and he is really talented. To play against him is really hard and I had to stick to my gameplan and it worked today,” Mosaad explained.

“The age difference was 11 years, so it is a bit different. He got me in trouble, and I tried to get back to my game. I managed to do that sometimes but he kept playing well and I think I did a good job, especially in the second game.

”I started warming up 15-minutes earlier. You need to focus from the first point. I did not do that unfortunately, but I am happy I turned it round today.”
