Calgary Women’s Week RD1: British Quartet Reach Second Round

Four British players have made their way through to the second round of the Calgary CFO Consulting Services PSA Women’s Squash Week, after winning their respective matches on the opening day of the Challenger 20 level tournament.

The first day of the event, which features a 24-strong women’s draw, featured seven British players, including one all-Scottish battle which saw Georgia Adderley get the better of Katriona Allen in straight games at the Calgary Winter Club in Canada, and she will now face top seed, and home favourite, Danielle Letourneau.

Following on her victory, there were four English winners on the opening day, with Lily Taylor overcoming Australia’s Sarah Cardwell in a three-game affair. Millie Tomlinson also won on her return to the Challenger Tour after a year, beating Nigeria’s Yemisi Olatunji.

The other English victor on the first day of the Challenger 20 level tournament was Lucy Beecroft, after she defeated Welsh No.3 Ali Loke, also in straight games. The Englishwoman will now do battle with No.2 seed, Australia’s Donna Lobban in Thursday’s second round action.

The second round of the Calgary CFO Consulting Services PSA Women’s Squash Week will see the seeded players begin their campaigns, with the action taking place at the Calgary Winter Club on Thursday, March 3.
