Calgary Women’s Week: Ho Downs Yuk To Claim Title

7 March 2022

Hong Kong’s Tze Lok Ho claimed the biggest title of her career to date with a victory at the Calgary CFO Consulting Services PSA Women’s Squash Week on Sunday, defeating compatriot Chan Sin Yuk in the final.

Ho, the World No.36, had four titles to her name prior to this week in Calgary, but the biggest of those was a Challenger 5 level victory. Now, she has a Challenger 20 level title on her record, after a stellar week in the Canadian city.

As the No.3 seed, she received a bye through to the second round of the competition, where she proceeded to get the better of Mexico’s Diana Garcia, scraping through her first match of the week in five games, having to come from two games down to make the quarter finals.

The Hongkonger then defeated compatriot Tsz-Wing Tong in straight games, before coming up against the tournament’s top seed, and the home favourite, Danielle Letourneau. Ho had to come from behind twice in the contest after losing both the first and third games, but was able to win in five to advance to the final.

In the final, she took on another fellow Hongkonger in the unseeded Chan Sin Yuk, who had already knocked out three seeded players en route to the final. The first three games of the final would go to tie-breaks, with Yuk taking the first 16-14. Ho responded with a 12-10 win in the second, but lost the third by the same scoreline.

She had to fight to stay in the contest, winning the fourth 11-9, before cruising to the fifth game, and the victory, after 66 minutes of action at the Calgary Winter Club. The Calgary CFO Consulting Services PSA Women’s Squash Week becomes the World No.36’s fifth PSA Tour title, and her biggest to date.
