The main draw of the City of Greater Bendigo International, PSA W5 event begins on Friday August 21 with the Men’s event already underway as a host of exciting matches light up the courts.

Pakistan’s Tayyab Aslam is the number one seed for the Men’s event and is still on the hunt for his first PSA World Tour title of 2015.

The 19-year-old failed to progress from the second round last time out at the Australian Open but was in fine form before that event, reaching the final of the Open International d’Angers back in June.

Aslam, who hails from Lahore, opened his tournament against Australia’s David Clegg who he dispatched 3-0.

Joel Makin is Aslam’s biggest title rival and will look to improve on his showing at the Australian Open where he bowed out in the opening round.

The Welsh World No.114 defeated Martin Svec to advance to the second round as he got his campaign off to a winning start.

Joshua Larkin is the leading home hope ahead of the event and is in fine fettle having already claimed two PSA World Tour crowns so far this year in Australia at the City of Perth WA Open and the City of Kalgoorlie & Boulder Golden Open.

The 25-year-old saw off Omar Bahgat in round one with a second round tie against Jaejin Yoo on the horizon.

The Women’s event sees Milou van der Heijden take the favourites tag in a hugely competitive field which features six of the world’s top 70 players.

Van der Heijden has already tasted success on the PSA World Tour once this year with victory at the Malaysian Tour Squash II and will hope to draw on that experience this time around. Danielle Letourneau awaits the Dutchwoman in the first round.

Christine Nunn has been in good form recently and is one of the names to look out for in the Women’s draw.

The World No.52 claimed the title at the City of Devonport Tasmanian Open last month in addition to recording a semi-final finish at the Victorian Open 3 weeks ago, knocking out former World Champion Rachael Grinham en-route. Yura Choi will be her opponent as the pair go up against each other for a quarter-final berth.
