Bremer Schlussel SF: Byrtus and Eleinen To Meet In Friday’s Final

12 August 2022

The final of the Bremer Schlussel is set, after a pair of surprises results in the semi-finals on Thursday in Bremen, as the Czech Republic’s Viktor Byrtus and Egypt’s Aly Abou Eleinen both made it past higher-ranked opposition to reach the last stage of the Challenger 10 level competition.

Byrtus had already taken out the tournament’s top seed, and defending Bremer Schlussel champion, Bernat Jaume, earlier in the week, and he came into his last four clash with home favourite Yannik Omlor as the underdog.

44 places separate the pair in the World Rankings, but it was the Czech man that was in complete control throughout, allowing the German to score just 11 points across the entire contest, winning 11-6, 11-2, 11-3 in just 25 minutes to advance to the third final of his career.

The other semi-final on Thursday evening in Bremen saw an all-Egyptian clash between two of the tournament’s top three seeds. No.3 seed Aly Abou Eleinen came through against No.2 seed Mazen Gamal, also winning in straight games, to book his spot in the final against Byrtus.

The final of the Bremer Schlussel will take place at the ULC Sportwelt in Bremen, Germany on Friday, August 12, with all the action being shown live and free on the PSA Challenger Tour YouTube channel. You can also keep up to date with live scores from the final on the PSA World Tour’s website.
