BISL Southern Punjab: Iqbal And Zafar Crowned Champions

16 February 2021

In the first event on Asian soil in 2021, Nasir Iqbal and Madina Zafar were crowned champions of the BISL 4 Southern Punjab International Squash Tournament, held in Pakistan.

The event, which took place in Multan, was a restricted-entry event, like all on the Challenger Tour right now. Only players residing in the country were allowed to take part, with all bar one representing Pakistan, Canada’s Darosham Khan in the men’s draw.

The women’s event was taken by Madina Zafar, who won for the second straight tournament, after capturing the Pakistan international Squash Tournament title back in December. She was the top seed for the event, and came through unscathed.

Zafar, the World No.93, spent just 72 minutes on court across her four matches in the tournament, and she defeated No.5 seed Rushna Mehboob, No.8 seed for Ul Ain Ijaz and No.6 sees Zaynab Khan en route to picking up her second title.

The men’s final lasted just ten minutes, with top seed Asim Khan having to retire from the match. That left No.5 seed, and World No.132, Nasir Iqbal, to claim the title. It is his first taste of success since 2015, when he won the President Gold Cup International Squash Tournament in Islamabad.
