Bangamata Squash Tournament QF: Khan Continues Knockout Run

20 March 2022

Pakistan’s Hamza Khan continued his great run of form at the Bangamata Squash Tournament – Presented by SA Group, as he knocked out a higher seeded player for the second day in succession, en route to reaching the semi-finals of the Challenger 5 level tournament.

The young Pakistani got the better of India’s Sandeep Ramachandran to reach the last eight, and on Sunday afternoon at the Chittagong Club, Khan overcame No.3 seed Ammar Altamimi, the Kuwaiti No.1, to move into the last four of the competition.

Khan won the first game of his quarter final contest against the Kuwaiti, but found himself level after two games, with Altamimi’s experience coming through. However, it would be the tournament’s No.9 seed that came through to win the contest, taking the win in four games.

He will now face No.2 seed Abhishek Agarwal in the semi-finals of the Challenger 5 level competition, after the Indian overcame the tournament’s surprise package, Sri Lankan No.1 Ravindu Laksiri, in a straight games contest. The other match of the last four will see top seed Yassin Elshafei take on Iranian No.1 Alireza Shameli for a place in the final.

The semi-finals will be played at the Chittagong Club on Monday, March 21, with the final four doing battle to reach Tuesday’s finals.
