Al Tamimi Axes Gamal in Qatar Quarter-Final

Number three seed Abdulla Mohd Al Tamimi produced a stunning come-from-behind victory to defeat Egypt’s Mazen Gamal in the quarter-final stage of the Qatar Circuit I, PSA M15 tournament.

The World No.74, who caught the eye with a good performance against World No.1 Mohamed Elshorbagy in the opening round of the recent Qatar Classic event, found himself 2-0 down to Gamal and contemplating an early exit on home soil.

However, game three brought about a 13-11 victory on the tie-break in Al Tamimi’s favour and with that, the momentum of the match changed considerably as the 20-year-old pressed on to complete a 9-11, 8-11, 13-11, 11-4, 11-9 triumph, securing his place in the last four.

His opponent there will be October PSA Player of the Month Mohamed Reda after the number two seed dispatched Joel Makin in three.

Top seed Jens Schoor is also through to the semi-final after he earned a 3-0 win against England’s Nathan Lake. He will meet Ammar Altamimi for a place in the final after he recovered from a 2-0 deficit to come out on top against Lance Beddoes in a bruising five-game encounter.
