Abierto Colombiana QF: Enriquez and Herrera Join Top Two In Semis

18 June 2022

It’s been a week of surprises at the Abierto Colombiana Club la Pradera, but the quarter finals of the Challenger 5 level competition did not follow that pattern, with the higher ranked players winning in all four matches.

On home soil, Colombia’s No.7 seed Andres Herrera took on one of the two surprise wildcards, in Juan Carlos Gomez, but he was able to get the better of his compatriot in a four-game battle. He took a two-game lead, before Gomez fougt back to win the third. However, it was Herrera that was able to win the fourth to claim the victory. He will now face top seed Alfredo Avila in the semis.

The other meeting in the last four will see No.2 seed Ronald Palomino and No.6 seed Alejandro Enriquez, after the pair both came through their respective last eight contests. Palomino beat compatriot Matias Knudsen while Enriquez got the better of Paraguayan No.1 Francesco Marcantonio.

The semi-finals of the Abierto Colombiana Club la Pradera will take place on Saturday, June 18, with the final four doing battle to try and make it through to Sunday’s final in Cundinamarca.
