2nd Sylvester Trophy: Kobayashi Wins In Uster Again

14 March 2021

Japan’s Ryosei Kobayashi won on Swiss soil for the second time in four months after he defeated Valentin Rapp in the final of the 2nd Sylvester Trophy in Uster this weekend.

Like all events on the Challenger Tour right now, the Challenger 5 level tournament had restricted entries, with only players currently residing in cross-border countries allowed to participate.

Kobayashi had won the Swiss Open in November 2020, and came into this event sitting at his highest World Ranking, at World No.70. He continued his great form at Squash Uster.

The Japanese No.1 took out four Swiss players, in wildcard Liam Poessl, Luca Zatti, Miguel Mathis and No.3 seed Robin Gadola en route to the final, where he faced Germany’s Valentin Rapp.

Kobayashi was in control throughout the final, as he took the first two games to hold a commanding lead. Although Rapp secured the third game, the Japanese man took the victory 3-1, claiming his fifth title on the PSA Challenger Tour.
