2nd Guatemala Open Tournament QF: Lee and Enriquez Gatecrash Semis

For the second week in a row, there will be unseeded players featuring in the semi-finals at the Asociación Deportiva Nacional de Squash, as England’s Charlie Lee and home favourite Josue Enriquez have made it into the last four of the 2nd Guatemala Open Squash PSA Tournament.

Enriquez, one of several Guatemalans in the field at the start of the tournament, came up against the men’s No.2 seed, USA’s Timothy Brownell, in the last eight, and required just there games to get the job done against the American, with a first game tie-break crucial. He took that 12-10, before going to win 3-0, and he will now face Mexico’s Alfredo Avila in the semi-finals.

England’s Lee was the other man to cause an upset on quarter finals day in Guatemala, as he defeated No.4 seed Ronald Palomino in straight games, to set up a contest with the men’s top seed, Mexico’s Arturo Salazar, in the semis on Friday.

In the women’s event, the top four seeds all safely made their way through to the semi-finals of the Challenger 5 level draw, with just one of the, No.4 seed Diana Gasca, dropping a game in her last eight contest. She will face No.2 seed Laura Tovar in the last four, while Australia’s Alex Haydon and India’s Akanksha Salunkhe will play in the other semi-final.

The semi-finals of both the men’s and women’s event in Guatemala will take place on Friday, March 4, with the final four advancing to Saturday’s finals at the Challenger 10 and 5 level tournament.
