Salma Hany is another of the young crop of talented Egyptians ascending the path to the top of the rankings.

She drew a lot of admirers in 2012 and 2013 for a number of impresive performances as she captured three Tour titles over that period. After besting Farah Abdel Meguid in the Konutlari International, Ibrahim went on to secure back-to-back titles at the Sram NSC Series No2 and the Malaysian Squash Tour 8th Leg.

Despite suffering something of a trophy drought in the next two years, a number of consistent performances ensured that she would break into the world's top 20 for the first time in her career. Hany then reached the quarter finals of the Oracle NetSuite Open, before a semi final appearance at the Carol Weymuller Open, both in the latter part of 2017.

She finished runner-up at the Macau Open in 2018, losing to Nouran Gohar in the final. She then made the semis of the Carol Weymuller once again, before a last eight appearance in the 2019 Tournament of Champions.

Hany started the 2019-2020 season by reaching the quarter-finals of the J.P. Morgan China Squash Open, before consistently reaching the last 16 of the major tournaments throughout the campaign, including at the CIB PSA Women’s World Championship in front of the Pyramids. The young Egyptian reached the quarter-finals of the J.P. Morgan Tournament of Champions for the second consecutive year, before also reaching the last four of the Carol Weymuller Open just a couple of weeks later.

A quarter-final appearance at the Manchester Open, as squash returned following it’s six-month suspension due to COVID-19, was enough to see Hany move into the top ten of the World Rankings for the first time in her career in October 2020. She followed that up with another last eight result, making that mark at the Platinum level CIB Egyptian Open.

Hany started 2021 by reaching the semi-finals of the CIB PSA Black Ball Squash Open, and followed that up with quarter final results at the El Gouna International and the PSA World Championships. Towards the end of the calendar year, she reached the final of both the Oracle NetSuite Open and the Malaysian Open Squash Championships.

In her first appearance of 2022, the Egyptian made it into the quarter finals of the Windy City Open Presented by the Walter Family, before also reaching the semi-finals of the J.P. Morgan Tournament of Champions in New York City. To kick off the 2022-2023 season, Hany reached the final of the CIB Zed Open, before also making it into the last eight of three more tournaments. She reached the quarters of the South Western Women’s Open, U.S. Open and the Grasshopper Cup.

Hany started 2023 with semi-final appearances at both the DAC Pro Squash Classic and the Bahl and Gaynor Cincinnati Cup before making the final of the Canadian Women’s Open. She ended the 2022-2023 campaign with quarter final finishes at the Richmond Open and the El Gouna International, as she aimed to break back into the world’s top ten for the first time since November 2022.
