Nathan Lake joined the PSA World Tour in 2010, and has gone on to become a fixture of the world’s top 50 since.

In his first season on the PSA World Tour the Englishman reached the semi-finals of the Progetto 6 Open, where he was defeated in straight games by Abdullah Al Muzayen. Lake was then forced to wait until 2013 for his next semi-final appearance, this time at the Nottingham Open where he lost to fellow Englishman Declan James over four games, these finishes saw Lake break into the World’s top 100 for the first time in his career that year.

The Englishman then continued to go from strength-to-strength as he reached the semi-final of the Keith Grainger Memorial UCT Open Squash Championships in 2014 when he fell to defeat against Shaun Le Roux over four games. However, the following year Lake went all the way at the Keith Grainger Memorial Open when he downed Angus Gillams in straight games in the final to clinch his maiden PSA World Tour title, only dropping one game en route to the final.

Another title soon followed for Lake at the Jersey Squash Classic when he beat Ashley Davies over three games to secure his second Tour title. Two runner-up finishes followed that year at both the Grand Sport Armenian Challenger and the Malaysian Tour Squash VII where he lost to Mazen Gamal and Addeen Idrakie respectively. These finishes then saw Lake break back into the world’s top 100 in the World Rankings after almost two years outside.

Gillams was also able to get his revenge on Lake when the two met once again in a final, this time at the Sandman Hotels Open Penticton in 2016 when Gillams strolled to victory over three games. Two more runner-up positions followed for the Englishman further on in 2016 when he fell short of claiming titles at the Qualico Manitoba Open and the Grand Sport Armenia 2nd Challenger 5.

Lake then made the semi finals of the LOC Charing Cross Classic, before quarter final appearances at both the Seven hotels CAS International Squash Championship and the Holtrand Open. The Englishman only made one semi final in 2017, reaching the last four at the Nash Cup, but he was beaten by compatriot Tom Richards. He then reached the last eight of both the Three Rivers Capital Pittsburgh Open and then Kolkata International the year after.

Lake made it to the final of the Garavan’s West of Ireland Open in 2019, but lost out to compatriot Richie Fallows. However, he clinched another victory soon after, winning the 2nd Novum Energy Texas Open Squash Championships. That was the first of three wins in the 2019/2020 season, with wins also coming at the E.M. Noll Classic and the Qualico Manitoba Open.

After the return of the PSA World Tour following it’s six-month suspension to COVID-19, the Englishman made it through to the third round of a Platinum tournament for the first time in his career, doing so at the CIB Egyptian Open.

He started 2021 strongly, by reaching the semi-finals of the Life Time Plano International Squash Open - Presented by Resolve Tech Solutions, and then the final of the Texas Auto Save Life Time San Antonio 281 International Squash Open just a few weeks later.

Lake’s good form continued, as he went on to claim two more titles in 2021, with victories coming at the T.H. Quinn Cincinnati Queen City Open and the Wakefield PSA, while also reaching the semis of both the South State Bank Marietta Open and the Cleveland Skating Club Open. He celebrated the start of 2022 by moving into the world’s top 40 for the first time, and by reaching the quarter finals of a Gold level event for the first time as well, doing so at the Houston Open, the first tournament of the year.

That was followed by last 16 appearances at the Sturbridge Capital Motor City Open, Squash On Fire Open and GillenMarkets Canary Wharf Classic before he started the 2022-2023 season with a victory. Lake took the title at the Nash Cup and then ended the year with a runner-up finish at the London Open and quarter final results at the Life Time Chicago Open and the Czech Open.

Lake also reached another semi-final on the Challenger Tour in the second half of the campaign, making it to the last four at the Guilfoyle PSA Squash Classic. The Englishman made it to the last 16 at four events, including the PSA World Championships and the British Open, as he reached a career-high of World No.32 in May.
