Martin Svec is one of several Czech players in and around the world’s top 100, and he broke inside the top 80 in the World Rankings for the first time in the latter part of 2021.

He made his debut on Tour in 2011 at the IXI Open, bt had to wait three years until he made his first quarter final, with that coming at the Gibraltar Open. He also reached that stage of the City of Davenport Tasmanian Open a year later, before making a first semi-final on Tour at the North Coast Open in 2015.

A year later, and the Czech player reached his first final, doing so at the Zenit Black Sea open, losing out to Matthew Hopkin in three. A string of quarter final results came over the course of the next twelve months, before Svec made two more finals in 2017, at the Seapiax Lorient Open and the I.R.Iran Navy Squash Open.

Svec finally made it into the winners’ circle in 2018, as he defeated Abhay Singh to win the Keith Grainger Memorial UCT Open Squash Championships, just weeks after finishing runner-up to Jean-Pierre Brits at the Assore Balwin Gauteng Open.

He also reached the semis of the Pharmasyntez Russian Open and the Brussels Open to end 2018, before finishing runner-up to Angus Gillams at the Gibraltar Open the next year. He made the semis on home soil at the Czech Open and then also the medicine Hat Open before featuring just three times on Tour in 2020 due to the sport’s suspension due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Svec returned to the Tour in great form in early 2021, starting with a last eight appearance at the Czech Pro Series 1, before finishing runner-up ad the second and third events of the series, and those results saw the Czech player move inside the world’s top 100 for the first time in his career.

He took his second win on Tour at the Squash Eredivisie - Speelronde 6, beating home favourite Roshan Bharos in the final. He also made the semis of the Schraglage Squash Open, Breme Schlussel and Czech Pro Series VI, as well as making his Platinum bow, at the CIB Egyptian Open.
