Mariam Metwally is one of several Egyptians challenging to move inside the top 20 in the World Rankings, having broken into that mark earlier on in her career.

After joining the Tour in 2011, Metwally lifted her maiden title in March 2013 at the Swiss Open. She then doubled her tally a year and a half later as she swept to the Open D'Italia crown, beating number three seed Amanda Landers-Murphy in the showpiece final.

Metwally narrowly missed out on qualification for the main draws of the Tournament of Champions and the Windy City Open in early 2015 but she did make an appearance at the Alexandria International to end her campaign where she lost to Omneya Abdel Kawy.

She made it to the quarter-finals in the Wadi Degla Open in October 2016, where she lost out to Egyptian compatriot Nouran Gohar in straight games as Gohar sealed her place in the semi-finals. She also made the quarter finals of the Macau Open and Carol Weymuller Open in 2017, before going one step further in the Cincinnati Gaynor Cup in 2018.

The Egyptian went on to reach the quarter finals of the Macau Open the same year, as well as then reaching the last eight of both the Cleveland Classic and the Cincinnati Gaynor Cup once more.

Metwally then made it to the last 16 of both the DPD Open and the El Gouna International in 2019, but was plagued with injuries which kept her from featuring regularly on the Tour. She did make it to the quarters of the Carol Weymuller Open, in one of just a few appearances in 2020.

When the Tour returned after its enforced six-month suspension due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Metwally had a run of second round results at the major tournaments, including at the Allam British Open and CIB Egyptian Open. She then made the semis of the CIB Egyptian Challenger Tour 5, before also reaching the last 16 of her final event of 2021, the CIB Squash Open Black Ball.

The Egyptian started 2022 well, by reaching the quarter finals of the Cleveland Classic, before then making it into the last 16 of the Windy City Open presented by the Walter Family. She also made the last 16 of the Cincinnati Gaynor Cup, CIB Zed Squash Open and South Western Women’s Open over the course of the year.

Metwally also made it to the last 16 of the Carol Weymuller Open to kick off 2023, before reaching the same mark of the Platinum level J.P. Morgan Tournament of Champions. The Egyptian also reached the last 16 at the Bahl and Gaynor Cincinnati Cup, before finishing the season with second round results at the British Open and El Gouna International.
