Lucy Turmel is one of several young Englishwomen inside the top 50, and she broke inside the top 25 in the World Rankings for the first time in 2021.

Turmel won just the third tournament she made the main draw of, as she beat Deon Saffery in the 2017 Barcelona Open. That was followed up with a victory at the TRAC Oil & Gas North of Scotland Open in 2018, where she beat compatriot Kace Bartley.

The Englishwoman also had a hat-trick of runner-up finishes in the year, losing out to Alex Fuller in the final of the Christchurch Veterinary Surgery Ipswich Open and the Karakal Bangor Classic, before then just missing out on the Alliance Fabricating Ltd. Simon Warder Memorial Prostate Cancer Open.

She then reached the semi finals of both the London Open, her last tournament of 2018, and the Calgary CFO Consulting Services PSA Women’s Squash Week in 2019. Turmel took her third title on the PSA World Tour as she beat Melissa Alves to lift the Springfield Scottish Open trophy. Thanks to her performances, the young starlet broke into the top 50 of the World Rankings for the first time in June 2019.

She made the final of the Mumbai Leg of the HCL SRFI Indian Tour in her final appearance of 2019, before then making the last 16 of a Platinum event for the first time, doing so in Chicago at the Windy City Open presented by the Walter Family in February 2020. The Englishwoman also made the last 16 of the Manchester Open, before then making it into the third round of a Platinum level tournament twice in 2021.

Turmel first achieved that mark at the El Gouna International Squash Open, doing so for the first time in her career. She then followed it with another appearance in the last 16 of a major at the CIB Egyptian Open, while also making it into the second round of several other majors that year. Thanks to those results, the Englishwoman broke inside the world’s top 25 for the first time.

The Englishwoman started 2022 in the best possible way, as she won the Equinox Women’s Boston Open, before then finishing runner-up at the E.M. Noll Classic. Turmel then made the last eight of the Squash On Fire Open, ahead of a third round appearance at the Platinum level Windy City Open presented by the Walter Family.

She finished the 2022-2023 season with a quarter final result at the Cannon Kirk Irish Squash Open before making the last 16 of the J.P. Morgan Tournament of Champions. Solid results continued into the new campaign, and she finished 2022 with a hat-trick of quarter final results on the Challenger Tour. She made the last eight of the Hamilton Open, Rhode Island Open and Monte Carlo Classic to end the year.

She also made the quarter finals of the Bahl and Gaynor Cincinnati Cup, before winning her fifth Tour title. Turmel was victorious at the Calgary CFO Consulting Services Women’s Squash Week., before making the second round of the British Open, PSA World Championships and then El Gouna International.
