Emilia Soini is the leading Finnish player on the women’s tour, and recently made her way into the top 50 of the World Rankings for the first time in her career.

She feature in four Finnish Opens between 2009 and 2013, but did not really start making her way into the game until 2016, where she finished runner-up to Samantha Cornett at the Simon Warder Memorial Prostate Cancer Tournament.

The Finn made it to the quarter-finals of the same event a year later, before reaching the last eight of the Sentara Martha Jefferson Charlottesville Open. She then made the last four of the Internazionali D’Italia before reaching the quarters of the E.M. Noll Classic and the Bermuda Open in early 2018.

Soini continued to reach the last eight of Challenger Tour events through 2019, with an appearance in the semi-finals of the Nash Cup, and a runners-up finish at the MTC Squash Russian Open. She also made the final of her home tournament, the Savcor Finnish Open, in 2020, but lost out to Milou van der Heijden.

In her last two events prior to the Tour’s suspension due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Soini made it to the quarter finals of both the Calgary CFO Consulting Services PSA Women’s Squash Week and the Queen City Open.

She then started 2021 with a last 16 appearance at the Squash on Fire Open, before grabbing her first ever win at a Platinum level tournament later that year, and she did so at the PSA World Championships 2020-2021 in Chicago, beating Egypt’s Mayar Hany to reach the second round. She followed that up with a runners-up finish at the Hamilton Open at the back end of 2021.

The Finn made it into the last 16 of several tournaments over the course of 2022, including at the Silver level Manchester Open and Oracle NetSuite Open, along with also making that same mark at the Annecy Rose Open and Monte Carlo Classic.
