Swiss No.2 Dimitri Steinmann is on the rise up the World Rankings, and has already notched up eight wins before the age of 24.

Steinmann made his debut on Tour in 2013, but had to wait three years before he reached his first final, which came at the Bendigo International. He also made the semi-finals of the Airport Xmas Challenger that year, before starting 2017 off with a last four appearance at the Conseil General du Gard Ville de Nimes Open du Gard.

His first two titles came back-to-back later that year, as he won both the Tarra Volkswagen Bega Open and the North Coast Open on Australian soil, and it would be a nation that would remain kind to the Swiss player.

After runners-up results at the Pacific Toyota Cairs Squash International and the Regatas Resistencia Open, Steinmann returned to Australia and won twice more there in 2018. He won the City of Greater Shepparton International, before retaining his North Coast Open crown.

Steinmann claimed a third victory of the year at the Saskatoon International Movember Boast, before winning his national open a year later. He won the Swiss Open, beating Jesus Camacho in the final, and just three months later, he also lifted the Linear Logistics Bankers Hall Club Pro Am.

He finished runner-up at the Liechtenstein Open, before defeating compatriot Nicolas Mueller in the final of the Sihltal Classic in his final outing of 2020, inflicting Mueller’s first defeat by a compatriot for 13 years.

He started 2021 by reaching the quarter finals of the PSA Challenger 10 Le Reve Nancy, before then grabbing his first ever win at a Platinum level tournament, as he made it into the second round of the El Gouna International Squash Open. He also made the last 32 of the PSA World Championships 2020-2021 later in the year.

In his final event of 2021, Steinmann made it to the final of the Czech Open, where he lost out to compatriot Nicolas Mueller, before then reaching the last 16 of the Gold level Houston Open, his first appearance of 2022.

It was a busy year for the Swiss No.2, as he featured in 17 tournaments. He also made the last 16 of the Karachi Open Squash Championships, J.P. Morgan Tournament of Champions and Necker Mauritius Open Presented by Beachcomber Hotels in the first part of the year.

That form continued into the new season, where he started with another last 16 result at the QTerminals Qatar Classic. He made the same stage of the Grasshopper Cup, before finishing runner-up to compatriot Nicolas Mueller in the Czech Open for the second year in succession. Steinmann then reached a first World Tour semi-final, coming at the Hong Kong Football Club Open, as he reached the world’s top 25 for the first time in his career, in December 2022.

The Swiss No.2 consistently then reached second and third rounds over the course of the last half of the 2022-2023 season. He reached the last 16 of both the Oxford Properties Canadian Men’s Open and the Squash On Fire Open before making the second round of the British Open, PSA World Championships and the El Gouna International at the end of the campaign.
