Scotland’s Alison Thomson has been inside the top 100 of the World Rankings since the end of 2015, and has been a consistent performer.

She made her debut on the Tour a year earlier, and after reaching the last eight of the Paderborn Open, Open International des Volcan and the 2nd Tournoi International du Val de Marne, the latter being a semi-final appearance, Thomson hit the top 100 in the World.

She continued her good form, with further last eight results at the GillenMarkets Irish Squash Open, Nash Cup and Nicola Wealth Open in 2016, before making the semis of the Christchurch Vets Ipswich Open and the Jersey Squash Classic the following year.

She reached the semis of the Ipswich Open for a second straight year in 2018, and a year after that, Thomson made her first final on the Tour, doing so at the Cronimet Swedish Squash Open. That was followed by semi-final results at four of her next six events.

She made it to the last four of the Aspin Cup, JC Women’s Open, Val de Marne and the Open International des Volcans, as her good form continued through 2019 and into 2020. Her last event before the Tour’s six-month suspension came at the Queen City Open, where she recorded a quarter-final finish.

She returned to the Tour at the start of 2021, and over the course of the year, the Scot made at least the last eight of all 13 events she played in, including reaching four finals in that time. Thomson started with a quarter final appearance at the World Championship qualifying event, the Odense Open, before also reaching the last four of both the Stellar New Malden Squash Festival and the Arion Homes Off the Wall Squash Open

The Scot then also made the semis of the Hit and Run Sport Challenger before finishing runner-up at the AS Insurance Services Ltd NM Academy Open and the TWC Squash Squared Open. It was not long before she claimed her maiden crown though, beating Span’s Marta Dominguez Fernandez to win the Gibraltar Open.

Thomson then followed that with a second victory, as she took the Exeter Golf and Country Club Open title in her next event. She ended the year with quarter final finishes at the London Open and the Commercial Water Solutions Grange Challenger.
