XBOX PSA World Tour Finals 23/24: Preview

17 June 2024

The season ending XBOX PSA World Tour Finals get underway tomorrow from Bellevue, USA as the top eight male and female players in the world will battle it out for the coveted World Tour Finals trophies. The action gets underway at 14:00 (GMT-7) live on SQUASHTV.

The event brings together the top eight players from the World Tour Finals leaderboard, who gained points with their performances at World Tour events. Spots could also be guaranteed by players who won Platinum level events or the World Championships.

Unlike any other event throughout the season, this event will feature a group stage format in the early stages before moving to a semi-finals and final stage with the group winners and runners up advancing. The winner of Group A will play the runner up of Group B in one semi-final whilst the other group winner will face the other group runner up in the second semi-final.

Farag finished top of the men’s standings and will headline Group A alongside defending champion Mostafa Asal, who has won the previous three PSA World Tour Finals. Asal also got the better of Farag to win the historic British Open last week, winning 12-10 in the fifth game of an all-time classic.

Asal is aiming to become only the second player since the legendary Jansher Khan in 1998 to win the event four times. 2019 champion Karim Abdel Gawad and two-time winner Mohamed ElShorbagy are the other two players drawn in Group A.

World No.3 Paul Coll tops Group B after finishing second in the men’s standings. He will be up against World Champion and last year’s runner-up Diego Elias, World No.5 Mazen Hesham and World No.8 Tarek Momen.

World No.1 Nour El Sherbini is seeded first in the women’s event and she will look to add to her wins in 2018 and 2022. USA No.1 Olivia Weaver and Belgian sisters Nele and Tinne Gilis are the other players featured in Group A, with Tinne in line to make her World Tour Finals debut.

Group B will be headed up by World Champion Nouran Gohar. Gohar has been in scintillating form recently, with last week’s British Open triumph seeing her win her fourth tournament in a row. She will now look to win her third PSA World Tour Finals crown following victories in 2021 and 2023. Gohar will be joined by last year’s runner-up Hania El Hammamy, England’s Nour El Tayeb and fellow Egyptian Nour El Tayeb.
