Williams and Chan Sin Yuk Named Challenger Tour Players of the Month for May

3 June 2021

New Zealand’s Evan Williams and Hong Kong’s Chan Sin Yuk have been named the PSA Challenger Tour Players of the Month for May.

World No.67 Williams has been a man in form on the PSA Tour this year and particularly in May, claiming three titles last month, which takes him up to four in total in 2021 – the most of any player on the PSA Tour so far this year.

The Kiwi reigned victorious at the Waikato Open, Panmure Tecnifibre Open and the Barfoot & Thompson Auckland Open to make it four titles in a row following his win at the Henderson Rochelle Hobbs Open in February.

At the Barfoot & Thompson Auckland Open, Williams took on Lwamba Chileshe in the semis, beating the No.4 seed in straight games, before taking on younger sibling Temwa in the final. Chileshe had five match balls in the deciding game, but Williams was able to save them all before winning it on a tie-break 14-12 to claim his fourth title of the calendar year.

Meanwhile, Chan Sin Yuk claimed her maiden PSA title after defeating compatriot Vanessa Chu in straight-games in the final.

The 18-year-old Hong Kong player, who was the No.6 seed, had a tough route to the final, beating No.2 seed Tze Lok Ho and No.4 seed Lee Ka Yi before powering past No.5 seed Chu in the final at the PSA Challenger 10 event.

Thanks to her first title win, she has risen significantly up the rankings from World No.221 in May to World No.114 in June.

Other strong performers in May were New Zealand’s Kaitlyn Watts, who won two titles at the Waikato Open and Panmure Tecnifibre Open. Australia’s Jessica Turnbull also enjoyed a big month with victories at both the North Coast Open and Barfoot & Thompson Auckland Open.
